Dear British People,

enough is enough.
Really. Stop making an ass of yourselves. You are nice and kind and lovely people, do you really want to become the laughing stock of the civilized world?
"The people have spoken", haha. Just accept the fact that Brexit was/is/will always be a textbook example of a crackpot idea that leads nowhere but down.
Now get rid of the Demonic Possession and come back home please. We Europeans aren't perfect either, and we will happily accept your sincere apologies. Just send us a bottle of Isle of Skye whisky and an annual subscription to the Royal Shakespeare Company, and we will be fine. See you in Paris/Berlin/Rome next summer, let's get drunk [and I mean drunk!], and let's have a good laugh together, about this present madness. 馃尫

Yours cordially,
helenS.

[Note added: this post is no longer relevant. The majority of British people have now decided, at their peril, to harm their own interests, and "get Brexit done". So be it. Go find more trustworthy friends. Mr. Trump is waiting for you. 馃槙]

What a ridiculous post. It says nothing whatsoever about the European Union, and implies that people who voted leave don鈥檛 like Europe and don鈥檛 want to visit it.
If I didn鈥檛 know that it was written by an intelligent and cultured lady whom I enjoy talking to, I would assume it was written by someone completely ignorant of European politics and history. We leavers love Europe, and quite a lot of us know quite a lot about it. That鈥檚 why we don鈥檛 like the EU. For the record, I visited Paris and Rome long before the EU had been invented. I visited Berlin and Rome this year, three years after voting leave. And if I am spared I look forward to visiting all three, especially Berlin, long after we have left the EU and, perhaps, after the EU has ceased to exist.

Oh, and if you visit the Royal Shakespeare Company, I recommend that you don鈥檛 travel by air or road. If you do, you are liable to be confronted by hordes of children and Sir Mark Rylance who will accuse you of destroying the planet.

@MartinII I haven鈥檛 visited the RSC so apologies if I鈥檝e got this wrong but I am assuming you are referring to the Extinction Rebellion protesters. If so then it鈥檚 clear they are not accusing you (or any individual) of destroying the planet. Their protest is exactly the opposite in that they feel whatever we all do as individuals, the problem of climate change cannot be solved without government action. And that is their stated aim to ask/force/lobby government to change, not to make any individual feel to blame . And good on them

@Uhohuhoh I was actually referring (tongue in cheek, of course) to the recent campaign which resulted in the RSC cancelling its sponsorship from BP. The campaign was initiated by Rylance and completed by a letter from a group of schoolchildren.

@MartinII I鈥檓 actually glad that some youngsters care about important issues not least the environment. Nothing wrong with that and their views are perfectly valid

@MartinII At least my love letter to the British people provoked many responses. I appreciate that.
Oh, and should you visit Rome next summer, and you see a skinny lady in blue jeans and a white T-shirt, with armpit-length brown hair and Birkenstocks on her feet, please give her a smile. It could be me! 馃榿
MartinII70-79, M
@Uhohuhoh Of course, but one wishes they were encouraged, not least by people like Rylance, to recognise that the environment, like most other important issues, is complex, with many possible policy responses.
Uhohuhoh51-55, C
@MartinII who said they aren鈥檛?
MartinII70-79, M
@Uhohuhoh I did.
