There's a general principle that people who get a free ride because of their looks tend to not do as well after grade school. Not always true, but at a certain point personality and other non-physical measures become more important.
@raysam363 yes, and many of the ones who were hot in high school are now really fat or ugly, and they have nothing to fall back on. nasty on the inside and the outside.
