What does it mean if you get thousands of friend requests from strangers on Facebook? Mainly men.

I'll ask my sister-in-law. She doesn't know how to use Facebook properly, but talks to anyone who talks/answers to her (mostly men) and tells them anything she does or has to do. A little bit of mystery is always good!
