What are some weird or dangerous things you heard people did in the past to look attractive? I’ve read an article saying that people in the 40s would

swallow tapeworms on purpose to lose weight and women use to drip poison from flowers in their eyes to make their pupils bigger because this was seen as attractive😮😬

Supposedly some women would have a rib removed to fit in certain corsets, but that’s mostly rumor—the fact that they laced themselves into them was bad enough. Woman still use chemical hair straighteners and skin bleaching creams (and conversely, curly perm waves, tanning booths). Then there are the various things people (again, mostly women) have endured in other cultures in the name of societal “beauty” standards, foot-binding, metal rings to elongate the neck, ear gauges and face tattoos.
