In December it will be 39 years.

Brits are world renowned for dry humour. I first heard the new of Lennon's death on the radio. Apparently the disk jockey had been listening to the main news and interrupted a record with a very sombre announcement;
When America gave us Buddy Holly we took him to our hearts and worshipped every song and gave them John Lennon in return. And they're saying on the main news that they just shot him dead on the streets in New York.
