Secure Mental Satisfaction or More Financial Freedom... which should people chase?

I'm not asking as a completely either/or... so if you go for the mental satisfaction, you can still have some financial freedom, or if you go for financial freedom you can still have the mental satisfaction, but have more of one and less of the other, but still have them to a certain degree.
