Why do we never hear the word "divers" meaning "various" or "several" any more?

The last person I heard saying it was my grandad, who passed away in 1984 and it was a few years before then I heard him say it. Why did it fall into disuse?

I think it dropped when the churches realized nobody could understand the language in the KJV and switched to a more modern transaction.

@NosmoKing the King James Bible was considered the word of God over all other versions. Some may still think that.

@NosmoKing so am I. But nonetheless, the Bible has the same problem as Shakespeare, every one reveres them and yet nobody can understand them anymore. They could be written in Latin.

@NosmoKing no, I am descended from King James, just like Tony Blair is. I am not a megalomaniac.
