What do most parents do when their kid gets in trouble for using her phone in school?

Lie to the teacher and tell them you told your kid not to bring the phone to school.

@AthrillatheHunt That's not going to solve the problem. The teacher is going to be able to see through that and figure, if the kid lies about that, what ELSE is he/she lying to me about?

MY nephew had the habit of calling his grandparents and parents about midmorning and asking them to "bring him home" because he "had a bellyache". Then he would come home and eat like a horse. That ended when his grandparents took over the guardianship so he would go to school regularly and refused to pick him up so often. It stopped finally.

I AM a teacher and parents lie to me all the time about their kids phones.@MaryJanine

@AthrillatheHunt Then the parents are in the wrong. I think the only kids who should have phones are 1.) Those who have working parents and may need to contact them or 2.) Those who have a condition and need to go to the doctor or hospital. No others should be permitted.

When I went to school, cellular phones were never heard of. If I needed to get my parents during the regular school day, I had to use a pay phone during my study hall or lunchtime. If a teacher today sees a student using a cell within the boundaries of "illegal usage" he or she should take it away and call the parents or guardians in front of the counselor and the student - from another phone, naturally. The school should have a "lockdown"policy where the confiscated cell is kept captive until the parents come in for a three-way conference - parents, student, teacher involved.Having the proof in your hand may cut down on the lying about why the accused student has one in school and what the parents' policy is.

@AthrillatheHunt More power to you. Chicago and their suburbs are just as bad with phones. I see it on the news all the time. And I live across the alley from what used to be my old grammar school. I see middle-schoolers come out, swing the bag off their shoulder, and out comes the phone. Then they walk down the alley, their heads bent like so many nuns in prayer.
