Somebody could not know, or not admit to themselves their sexuality which is quite likely considering how society has changed over the past 30 years.
Also whether or not sexuality is inborn or chosen is really not relevant. What matters is that it cannot be forcibly changed.

Because people are more willing to admit it, both to themselves and others, anonymity notwithstanding. You're just a little kid and have no idea what things were like for people back in the 80s and before. You also have a very simplistic and naïve understanding of genetics and biology.
JarJarBoom · 41-45, F
Eh, you have to think that back then there was a lot of shame of even admitting you are gay, even to yourself..so even though the survey is anon it doesn't mean they'll answer honestly if they are in straight ass denial
Helloiwanttotalk · 26-30, F
@JarJarBoom again, there's no shame in an anonymous survey so your premise is flawed. Also, it doesn't explain the major discrepancies between millennials and older generations.

I think he means more people are willing to admit it these days. @Helloiwanttotalk

@badminton People aren't born gay. Their sexual behavior is influenced mostly by their environment. Even the APA came to this conclusion years ago. Young men and women who are raised without their fathers are more likely to be gay.
@Helloiwanttotalk You may be right. Whether its nature or environment, the real question is should gay people be treated differently than anyone else. Should gay people be persecuted and deprived of their rights as citizens, as they were in the past. I say no. Activities between consenting adults should be nobody's business.
Adaydreambeliever · 56-60, F
but your thinking is simplistic.. I don't mean that unkindly.. it was unacceptable to say you were gay, to even think about it.. it was frowned on and it's interesting to note that being a female bi/lesbian is STILL way more acceptable and accepted than being a gay man.. so we live and operate within the times we live in.. they restrict what we can and can't admit to..
In some countries you could be killed for being gay.. anonymous or not, in that climate you aren't going to admit it..
I am afraid it IS that it's now accepted.. well apart from a few die hard dinosaurs that is

@Adaydreambeliever 10 years ago, the gay population was less than 3 percent. The surveys are anonymous. Why should anyone have been afraid? Furthermore, how do you explain the sexual orientation discrepancies between older generations are millennials?
Quizzical · 46-50, M
@Helloiwanttotalk How do you explain homosexuality in other animals that don't have the mental capacity to make 'decisions' as complicated as what sexuality they wish to be? If it's not something genetic, and it cannot be a choice, what is it then?
firefall · 61-69, M
Your assertion has nothing to do with the survey you cite. Just because it's anonymous doesn't mean everyone feels safe to answer truly, and the further back you go, the more that's true.

in a study doing genetic analysis of 409 pairs of homosexual brothers, including twins, strong evidence was found that some homosexual men are born homosexual. The study, including approximately three times as many people as the previous largest study on this subject, indicates that it is significantly more statistically reliable. It links sexual orientation in men with two regions of the human genome that have been implicated before.[37] Lead author of the study, Alan Sanders, however, states that "complex traits such as sexual orientation depend on multiple factors, both environmental and genetic".[38] A region on the X chromosome called Xq28, was originally identified in 1993 by Dean Hamer of the US National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland. Another region in the twist of chromosome 8, known as 8q12, was first identified in 2005
There's studies that say all types of things, I'm not a scientist so I can't say which one is right or if any are right, not having a father doesn't make a person gay, I had a father and a step father and it didn't change a thing about the way I feel about myself, but thank you ☺

I do believe that your sexuality is something you grow into. That’s why people experiment, and that’s why there’s a point in their life where they’re unsure. They’re figuring themselves out and developing as a person. There’s nothing wrong with that, but it doesn’t agree with the idea that we’re born with it.
how do you know it has increased? it might have been always like that but yet no one admitted they were gay. now im not making a claim someone was born or isn't born gay i think we have no clue and there still is a chance someone is born gay. meaning life does not make you gay.
It's cool to be a lesbian these days
TonyPajamas · 22-25
I never met anyone make the active choice in being gay lol it just sort of happens. I mean, honestly, why care anyway? There’s no evidence supporting either claim.
CodeLyoko · 18-21, M
i think alot of people are born gay or transgender but since Society has become more open and accepting to expressing yourself in many way it has become a choice to others.

I don't think there is a gene for ones sexuality. I just think society is more open.
I'm not gay but I don't care if someone else is.

i don't think there is such thing as 'gay gene' 😄

"Clear evidence," huh?
If it's so clear you probably should have linked to the study, huh? Or qualified it some way.
And sorry kid but it absolutely has to do with more being comfortable and more tolerance in society. But that's ok. Gay people are scary to some.

Because people have children?
Jackaloftheazuresand · 26-30, M
aside from the fact they still have genetic children in some cases, it may also be recessive

I beg to disagree

Why?

You're talking about LGBT and you're talking about "gay", which is it?
