What do you do when you hear something fall in the middle of the night while you are in bed?

Get out of bed, stub my toe on the bedside table, limp as though I have a mortal injury, find my way in the dark running my hand along the wall, trip over the dog, step on the dogs ball, fall backward, land on my ass, crawl to the couch and say fuck it.
