@Awfullybrave If someone did something deliberately cruel, I would not want to give them another chance to repeat it. Likewise, if someone was seriously deceptive about something important, I wouldn't trust them again.
Children are another thing, though, because they are still learning and need a chance to correct their behavior and try again.
