How are flying cockroaches able to give us death scares?

I have seen common cockroaches leap ,drop .get through cracks and crevices

but the only one I have seen fly is a Palmetto bug (which is a roach ,but there are lots of varieties of roach's ,the Palmetto is large and looks like it has eyes on top of its shell ,they aren't actually eyes ,just marking )

And I think they know they scare most people ,not wanting a bug tangled in their hair and on them ,so I guess if the technique works ,keep doing it

I live in Florida where they are pretty common
they can make my daughter beat her brains out trying to kill one and they do seem to attack her
I am not afraid of them ,so when I come into an area where they are they get still ,but if they see I have noticed them ,they are getting out of dodge
its going to die .unless it can get into a place where I can't get to it ,
I am tracking it down and its going to die .

I have been laughed at and ask if I really think they are that smart
well they can survive almost anything .even loosing a head for up to 2 weeks
I tested the theory that the body can live without a head ,its true ,
I put a second one in a container with it (after 2 weeks ),to prolong its life ,the healthy one eat the headless one ,,so they are pretty darn tough so yes I think they are somewhat smart
I don't think they have been around so long by being stupid

Unlike the German roach that hatches out lots of little ones from an egg sack
they have fewer offspring and it takes longer for them to hatch out ..
I have been told ,if they do not run into someone like me
its possible for them to live up to 2 yrs
So ,,I would say they have to be fairly smart to do that fact
and I also think they know who is scared of them ,and who is not
