Nah, just fuck up the streets and leave the bill for the DC local government. And use the occasion to hold an illegal campaign event.

The speech from the Lincoln Memorial will be a barn burner. Can’t wait. @LeopoldBloom
@jackjjackson Yeah, who cares if he violates the Hatch Act. It's a silly law anyway. Trump only needs to follow the law when it doesn't inconvenience him.
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
You’re not a judge and jury. . @LeopoldBloom
@jackjjackson No, and apparently when it comes to Trump and his administration, no one else is, either.

I'll amend my statement to say that his rally appears to violate the Hatch Act, and if that suspicion is warranted, I hope you would join me in calling for an investigation. Unless you don't give a fuck about the law if your savior Cheeto Jesus is breaking it.

No one will be happier than I if Trump's speech tomorrow is in full compliance with the law, and the event does not turn into a political rally.
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
I agree with your last sentence. If an investigation is remotely warranted we are sure the dem controlled House will begin one ASAP. @LeopoldBloom
@jackjjackson You know what the Hatch Act is, right? It forbids government employees from engaging in partisan campaigns. The president has a partial exception in that he can campaign for himself, just not on the public dime. So unless Trump plans on reimbursing the government for the $92 million or whatever tomorrow's chest-thumping turns out to be, he's going to have to avoid saying "MAGA" or mentioning any of his Democratic opponents. His speech has to be limited to "America is great." Otherwise, he's breaking the law, and it will be obvious, no investigation needed.

If someone breaks into your house and steals your silverware in front of your eyes, and you know who they are, it's kind of obvious what happened.
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
I SUSPECT that the speech has been carefully prepared and the President simply has to stay on script. I suspect that since the speech will go national he will much to your disappointment I suspect. @LeopoldBloom
@jackjjackson Since nothing will happen to him if he breaks the law, I'd prefer if he'd comply with it. At least I won't have to watch the motherfucker get away with murder while Congress sits around with their thumbs up their asses.
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
Murder? That quite an accusation. @LeopoldBloom
@jackjjackson Trump himself said he could shoot a man in broad daylight on Fifth Avenue, and his fans wouldn’t care.

If Trump clearly violates the Hatch Act today, do you think he should get a pass?
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
Regardless of anything the kangaroo courts of cnn and msnbc will spring into action 😂 In any alleged violation of anything we all get due process including you me and the President so of course. @LeopoldBloom
@jackjjackson You realize that the only possible action is impeachment?

I'm not talking about the media, of course the right wing media will fawn all over him and cry "witch hunt." But if he gets up there and starts campaigning for himself, that will be a clear violation. It doesn't mean he's innocent if CNN reports on it.

I think Pelosi might have made a mistake by taking impeachment off the table. That only encourages Trump to push the envelope. For example, the Supreme Court ruled against the citizenship question on the census, but he's saying it will be on there anyway. If he actually follows through with that, that would be an impeachable offense. Impeachment is "due process" for the president, so I assume you would support that, unless you think he's above the law and is not obligated to follow Supreme Court rulings.

Something tells me you wouldn't be as accommodating of a Democratic president.
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
I voted for President Obama twice. What else? @LeopoldBloom
@jackjjackson Good for you, but the question is whether you think the president should be held accountable if he breaks the law, or if he gets a pass because you happen to agree with him. Putting aside whether a citizenship question should be on the census, or whether the Hatch Act is a stupid law, the president shouldn't be able to defy the Supreme Court or violate the law with impunity.
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
I answered. The law and due process should be applied to the President just like everyone including you and me. I won’t joint in a pre event kangaroo court. Nice try. @LeopoldBloom
@jackjjackson We still have a First Amendment, so the liberal press is entitled to speculate and make accusations just as the conservative press did with Obama. And you can ignore them if you don't approve.

Thanks for confirming that you would support an impeachment trial in the House if it appears that the president violated the law.
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
It’s not a trial it’s more like a grand jury. The trial is conducted by the Senate. If such a process starts I have no objection and we will see the outcome after it runs its complete course. @LeopoldBloom
@jackjjackson Impeachment is conducted by the House and does amount to a trial. The Senate trial is for removal. Both prior impeachments (Andrew Johnson and Bill Clinton) were successful in the House, but failed in the Senate. The same thing would very likely happen if Trump were impeached, so I can see why Pelosi doesn't want to put the country through what would amount to a divisive and unproductive process, despite the fact that Trump has committed several impeachable offenses.
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
As stated:
Impeachment in the United States is the process by which the lower house of a legislature brings charges against a civil officer of government for crimes alleged to have been committed, analogous to the bringing of an indictment by a grand jury. At the federal level, this is at the discretion of the House of Representatives. Most impeachments have concerned alleged crimes committed while in office, though there have been a few cases in which officials have been impeached and subsequently convicted for crimes committed prior to taking office.[1] The impeached official remains in office until a trial is held. That trial, and their removal from office if convicted, is separate from the act of impeachment itself. Analogous to a trial before a judge and jury, these proceedings are (where the legislature is bicameral) conducted by upper house of the legislature, which at the federal level is the Senate.
Despite your repeated efforts to put words in others mouths and twist facts. I was yet again correct and you yet again wrong.

@LeopoldBloom
@jackjjackson And it looks like Trump listened to his handlers. His speech was a celebration of the United States and its armed forces, and not a campaign rally.
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
As I told you it would be. I’m proud to be an American. Are you? @LeopoldBloom
@jackjjackson I am, but not because of that masturbatory embarrassment yesterday.

Since you're a law and order guy, I assume you've called the White House to ask the president to hold Kellyanne Conway responsible for her violation of the Hatch Act.

DOJ and The House are free to do whatever re Mrs Conway. @LeopoldBloom
@jackjjackson The House is; I wouldn't say DOJ is, at least not at the moment. If Pelosi is planning anything, it will be timed for maximum effectiveness.

Obama deliberately refrained from prosecuting any of the Bush administration in connection with the lies that led to the Iraq War. I'm not so sure the next Democratic president will be as accommodating to Trump.
