thats nothing new where I live ,,
if you your dog minds ,and leaves it be
you both should be fine
we swim with them
of coarse we don't tell the ladies
and we keep a good eye on them 🙂

As to Darwin ,I put little stock in his survival of the fittest law
Lots of critters better equipped then humans for survival
but we keep making them go extinct
