Will it be possible to heal the extreme polarization and political division in the United States? How could healing be accomplished?

Maybe an economic boom. If everyone...and I mean everyone, feels a lot better off then divisions begin to disappear.

@TheConstantGardener We're in an economic boom now. One side of the political isle either ignores that or denies it.
TheConstantGardener · 56-60, M
@Sicarium So you have nobody in relative poverty?
eli1601 · 70-79, M
@TheConstantGardener If we're not in what people consider an economic boom now, we never will be.
Sicarium · 46-50, M
@TheConstantGardener That's a non-sequitur. An economic boom doesn't mean there's nobody in relative poverty, and there will always be those in relative poverty, that's the nature of relative poverty. It's built into the definition.
TheConstantGardener · 56-60, M
@eli1601 Ok. But I mean an economic boom where everyone is included...nobody left behind.
TheConstantGardener · 56-60, M
@Sicarium You know what I mean 😏
Sicarium · 46-50, M
@TheConstantGardener No, I don't, you're randomly moving the goalposts.
TheConstantGardener · 56-60, M
@Sicarium The goal posts are set by the OECD. You can examine them if you want.
eli1601 · 70-79, M
@TheConstantGardener Impossible. If you would rather pass the crack pipe around than get job you are going to be left behind.
Sicarium · 46-50, M
@TheConstantGardener OK...? Not that that actually means anything. Relative poverty is relative. The bottom 10% of wage earners in your population are the relatively poor, even if they're making $10,000,000 a year. Hence, relative.

Economic booms do help the relatively poor, they also help those in absolute poverty. See inner city employment for an example.

We are in an economic boom now. It's not doing anything to unite the country. Both those points are demonstrable, and stand in direct contradiction to your OP.

Beyond that, I have no idea what you're trying to argue. So, have fun, I guess.
TheConstantGardener · 56-60, M
@eli1601 Who said anything about about drug addicts? 🤷🏻‍♂️
eli1601 · 70-79, M
Sicarium · 46-50, M
@TheConstantGardener You did, several times, when you emphasized everyone.
...and I mean everyone

...where everyone is included...nobody left behind.
TheConstantGardener · 56-60, M
@Sicarium I have no interest in trying to convince you of what I believe.
....@TheConstantGardener @eli1601 @Sicarium ......

I believe there is a significant faction who are going to live in squalor no matter how prosperous the nation becomes, and maybe that's the picture that is causing the minor contention. There are a lot more people in this country who insist on living in poverty than most people want to admit.
TheConstantGardener · 56-60, M
@puck61 I don't believe that anyone should live in poverty, especially in one of the wealthiest countries on earth.
@TheConstantGardener What are you going to do with the 20% or more who insist on living in poverty? Restrict them to luxurious compounds?
TheConstantGardener · 56-60, M
@puck61 Insist on living in poverty?

Is that based on research?
@TheConstantGardener We earn good things. We earn bad things. If people insist on earning bad things, they deserve them as much as those who insist on earning good things deserve what 'they' earn.
Sicarium · 46-50, M
@TheConstantGardener Then why are you wasting your time by replying and why do you keep moving the goalposts? Seems more likely that you don't know what you believe in any consistent form.
TheConstantGardener · 56-60, M
@puck61 That makes no sense to me, sorry 🤷🏻‍♂️
@TheConstantGardener No research needed. It's pretty obvious, but the research is there.
TheConstantGardener · 56-60, M
@Sicarium Naff off would you.
Sicarium · 46-50, M
@TheConstantGardener Why are you angry?
TheConstantGardener · 56-60, M
@Sicarium Why do you think I'm angry?
