Sympathy is wasted on the dead. They have no use for it.
I have sympathy for their loved ones and the pain they are experiencing.
As for those that die attempting to climb Mt. Everest or any mountain I have admiration. They had the balls to pursue their dream even in the likelyhood of danger and hardship. They chose adventure and experiences over nachos and video games. It is better to die trying then to rot away watching from the sidelines.

I have no feeling one way or the other. Their choice, their risk. And I am guessing "tons" is a vast overstatement.
