The future?

I am watching The Purge: Election Year on FX. How many of you think the US, or even the world, is headed this way if we don't outlaw right and left wing extremism?

Your solution to extremism is to outlaw extremism, which means you'd have to end freedom of speech and freedom of association. Denying Constitutional rights is extreme. You become the extremist, and an authoritarian. That this seems like a good idea to you tells me that you're already the extremist.

Yeah, hate to break it to you, but you're the bad guy. You might want to rethink your approach.

@Sicarium Freedom of speech does not mean feeedom to hate, it means freedom to criticize the government and political leaders without fear of retaliation. People are so fucking stupid to think we can say anything we wish, it does not.
Sicarium · 46-50, M
@NativeOregonian That is entirely and completely false. I'd suggest reading a book or two, maybe even the Constitution. You're just using "hate" as an excuse to be an authoritarian who's arguing for oppression, while at the same time intentionally misrepresenting what freedom of speech is.

You are the extremist.
NativeOregonian · 51-55
@Sicarium I suggest you pay closer attention to global politics, when multitudes of people are imprisoned globally merely over comments on social media against their governments and leaders.
Sicarium · 46-50, M
@NativeOregonian I'd suggest you make fewer asinine assumptions. I assure you, I know more about what's going on than you do.

And you're arguing in favor of all that. What the hell do you think "ban extremism and hate" leads to?
@Sicarium Outlawing extremism is in itself, extremist again. Why doesn't anyone consider that ANYTHING can be taken out of proportion and made extremist and therefore harmful? The biggest threat to Canada (at least) at this time is Extremist Capitalism which is rampant throughout North America and Europe not Communism or Socialism nor any issue of race nor religion.
NativeOregonian · 51-55
@Sicarium Sure, ok.
Sicarium · 46-50, M
@Anonymartyr You might want to reread the thread. And "extremist capitalism", just lol.
Sicarium · 46-50, M
@NativeOregonian Yeah, it's fairly common for extremists to bury their heads in the sand or run away when their extremism is pointed out to them.
NativeOregonian · 51-55
@Sicarium And yet here you are, criticizing solutions to severe problems, which makes one think you are part of that problem and refuse to change for the better.
@NativeOregonian There are better solutions to these problems- but people don't want solutions. They just want attention.
Sicarium · 46-50, M
@NativeOregonian You're dammed right I'm going to criticize extremist "solutions" proposed by an extremist. And if your extremism is ever implemented, I'll do more than criticize.

Also, I completely and totally reject what you define as "changing for the better".
NativeOregonian · 51-55
@Anonymartyr Sadly, that is very true, and their wanting attention is getting worse with each new generation. I am very interested in hearing what you think are the best solutions before outlawing extremism itself has to be done.
Is the Education system there really that bad or did you drop out?
NativeOregonian · 51-55
@Anonymartyr Judging by a few groups Sicarium subscribes to, I am guessing he is either a drop out, or him being from Texas, went to a school that encouraged right wing exrremism.
@NativeOregonian People need to learn that government needs tax-payers but tax-payers do not need government.
The solution lies in the individual and not in the government. People who live properly do not need law enforcement, its the criminals who create that need, through the inaction of the community as a whole. The more you moderate yourself, the less you need to be governed.
@NativeOregonian Sounds like the private army type that shoots first and realizes their mistake later. They also talk without knowing: Liberal in Canada is more conservative than the conservatives in the USA are. Because in General Canadians and those who choose to move here tend to be a more moderate people who do not thrive in violent and aggressive environment like the USA. they tend to think that we here are trying and failing to be like the USA. Rather we , generally consider the USA to be our obnoxious and perpetually misbehaved relative and why the rest of the world finds Canadians so polite has little to do with Canada, but the comparison with American tourists making Canadians look good. Our gun laws here are not so important in our much-lower violent crime rate because if that were the case, there would simply be that many more stabbing and fatal beatings. There is no death penalty anywhere in the country save for the highest levels of treason. This has nothing to do with the government and everything to do with how our people choose to live their lives. We will willingly give up some personal freedoms voluntarily if we feel the need for increased internal protection. In my community there never was a debate about installing cameras all over every business part of the city. Nobody here felt stepped on over it.
You cannot enforce good behavior, you can only encourage it; and you cannot threaten criminals, they will only become more violent. A community stands or falls because of its people, not because of its leadership.
