The Royal Family has been extremely fortunate in getting strong, healthy children. Down's syndrome, or any other birth defects or difficulties, can happen to any human family. You don't have to be royalty to be afflicted by anything.
My one brother had his first child die in his wife's womb before she was born. He was devasted when she was stillborn, but that didn't stop him from having a healthy strong daughter two years later. She is now married, on this side of thirty, and I am happy for it.
Maureen McCormick (Marcia, Brady Bunch) had a slightly retarded brother. She didn't tell anyone until her mother passed away.He went to school in a program that mixed him with regular kids, and he thrived. He lived at home until her mother was dying - then they placed him into a facility to care for him.
Rosemary Kennedy (sister of JFK and RFK) was born retarded. She lived at home and was treated normal all her life long, by parents and siblings alike.
Depending on the laws of English nobility, I am sure any child would be welcomed, treated normally and raised alongside any others. But the point is, all the children born so far were healthy and have taken their place in order to succeed the Queen to ruling the countryside. Any child afflicted at birth or later, if a successor to the throne, would most likely have help and advisors in his or her tenure.
