How much money do you usually bring on a road trip?

Like how much ‘extra’ do you usually pack along jic?

I think I’ve got the base expenses down, accommodations, activities, food, and fuel. That’s seems bout right yea?

Have you ever slept in a Walmart parking lot? Whats your thoughts about it?

Do you need cash, or can you not just do ATM withdrawals as you go? (I'm assuming you don't have a credit card or you have one and don't want to use it, but if you do it should suffice for true emergencies assuming they're not over your credit limit.) And what kind of trip? Are you being a tourist, or just getting from A to B as quickly and as cheaply as possible?

A bit of both, I’m trying to get a few states over to the national park to cave. I really don’t want to blow a lot of money, I only want to use my debit and cash. The extra money would be purely for emergencies. I do have a credit so I could use that if absolutely necessary. @ninjavu

@Classy Well, if you've already budgeted for "accommodations, activities, food, and fuel", and you have a credit card for true emergencies (which could be $10 or $10 000!), I would say no more than about $50 a day (per person I suppose) for non-emergency sundries for the days you're actually travelling. But that depends on your own spending habits on said sundries. I do like to buy souvenirs when I travel. :)

As for sleeping in Walmart parking lots, I believe that's really only a thing for people in motorhomes and such. You can probably sleep anywhere if you're just in a car. However, that doesn't mean you won't get harassed by either or both of the police (and security guards) and people you don't want to deal with or who have malevolent intentions. I'd be careful of that.

Hope that helps a bit.
