that whole "we're the only 2 humans left, we need to repopulate the earth" cliche

yeah that cliche is really flawed, Its not super popular anymore, but Ive heard it all throughout my life, the idea that if you and one other person of the opposite gender were the only two humans alive, that you'd have to re populate the earth, which would likely almost never happen lol

but the the thing is, what people never think about is this: HOW WILL YOUR CHILDREN CONTINUE TO REPOPULATE...
"hey jimmy, this is your new sister , lilly, your gonna have to bang her when your older to keep the human race alive"

assuming you dont end up giving birth to like 7 of one gender. hell, even if there was one other couple, and they had 2 kids, you had 2 kids, that just happened to be 2 boys and 2 girls, even then "heres your cousins, do the sex"

when you think about it, somewhere down the line, any really small closed off community would always end up with incest....dang, and this was just supposed to be a random thought experiment....

To be honest, probably the bigger flaw with that whole plan is the assumption that two people would be enough....two random people, both have to obviously be fertile, she has to deliver multiple healthy/fertile kids with no medical intervention...the kids have to be male and female, they have to survive to beyond puberty (in a world without medical care etc)....then the process starts again for them..and so on.

I think its more likely to fail for a range of other issues before it even gets to the gene problems associated with incest.

If the only available partner to reproduce with was a brother or sister, do you think that the thought of incest would stop them ?@sabbymichelle

I believe the minimum you need is 80 males and 80 females to keep a viable gene pool.
Quizzical · 46-50, M
@HeWhoLaughs It's something NASA has been calculating for potentially colonizing new planets.
HeWhoLaughs · 26-30, M
@Quizzical jeez, and the amount of resouces needed to do that must be insane, almos doesnt sound worth it
Quizzical · 46-50, M
@HeWhoLaughs It's certainly going to need a huge technological leap forwards before we can even consider it
Its not serious. People don't have to repopulate if they don't want to. That Adam and eve jazz didn't even happen
HeWhoLaughs · 26-30, M
@MushroomFaerie obviously they wouldnt have to, and if you dont believe that adam and eve were real, then go you, but I cant say i personally agree
SaulGoodman · 26-30, M
Yea that's the part that always got me too.. thing is. .... kids wouldn't think it was bad tho.
HeWhoLaughs · 26-30, M
@SaulGoodman if it was just the way it had to be, you wouldnt care yeah. hell it even happened in the bible , not including adam and eve
SaulGoodman · 26-30, M
@HeWhoLaughs right. I mean if you were fuckin your kids that's one thing but they wouldn't know it's wrong. So just a few generations of retarded kids until the gene pool spreads around some and eventually evolution will make them less retarded
sabbymichelle · 41-45, F
...No one said saving the human race from extinction was going to be a walk in the park did they??
HeWhoLaughs · 26-30, M
@sabbymichelle the real question is, would it really be a good idea to save the human race?
