"arbitrary" can mean
- not constrained ("an arbitrary constant" in a mathematical sense)
- without a reason ("he arbitrarily gave me an F")
you should delve into the meanings and backgrounds of words on your own, because it will help you in all of your commumication skills by giving you greater confidence in a wider array of words which you wrangle into your working vocabulary...
