Update: House Democrats voted Friday to defend localities that allow illegal immigrants to vote in their elections, turning back a GOP attempt to discourage the practice. As The Washington Times reports, the vote marks a stunning reversal from just six months ago, when the chamber - then under GOP control - voted to decry illegal immigrant voting

@GJOFJ3 could you give us your source? Because claims that illegals voting were influencing the results already lead to a thorough investigation and it turned out the whole "problem" was about a handful of voters slipping through at most.

House votes in favor of illegal immigrant voting
By Stephen Dinan - The Washington Times - Friday, March 8, 2019
House Democrats voted Friday to defend localities that allow illegal immigrants to vote in their elections, turning back a GOP attempt to discourage the practice.

The vote marks a stunning reversal from just six months ago, when the chamber — then under GOP control — voted to decry illegal immigrant voting.

“We are prepared to open up the political process and let all of the people come in,” Rep. John Lewis, a Georgia Democrat and hero of the civil rights movement, told colleagues as he led opposition to the GOP measure.

@GJOFJ3 all I can say is that John's quote seems to be taken out of context. I presume he meant legal citizens should not be hindered by unreasonable legislation, which has been a big problem in some areas. I don't believe he really meant that illegals should be allowed to vote as well.

@SW-User definitely not what he said or meant

@GJOFJ3 is there a video of his entire speech?

@SW-User ask the Washington Times. They quoted him.
SW-User
@GJOFJ3 how do you know the entire context if that short quote is your only source?
GJOFJ3 · 61-69, M
@SW-User it is easily researched

@GJOFJ3 You were right, that was easy. On his own website he explains he wants to stop legal citizens to be hindered from voting. No word about allowing illegals to vote though.
Voting rights are under attack in America. Quietly, gradually, state-by-state, the right to vote – a right that many people died to secure – is being taken away. The Brennan Center released a report that shows that voting law changes across the nation will make it significantly harder for more than 5 million voters to exercise their constitutional right to vote. This should not be happening.

Today, we should be making it easy, simple, and convenient to vote. Instead, legislatures around the nation are creating barriers and making it more difficult for citizens to vote. There is not just one law, but many types of laws that are disenfranchising millions of voters: voter photo identification laws, proof of citizenship laws, barriers to registration, elimination of early voting and absentee voting, and laws making it harder to restore voting rights for people who have paid their debt to society. These laws are a barrier to an inclusive democracy. We are stepping backward toward another dark time in our history.
@SW-User Yes it is in his statement:

"There is not just one law, but many types of laws that are disenfranchising millions of voters: voter photo identification laws, proof of citizenship laws,.............."

I'm not trying to talk you out of being for illegal immigrants and non-citizens
being able to vote, I'm just stating what this legislation that was passed in the House of Representatives intends to accomplish

@Razorback according to our current Representatives asking for picture id or proof of citizenship is discrimination and voter suppression.

@GJOFJ3 No need to talk me out being for illegal immigrants and non-citizens voting. I'm not. But the paragraph you're quoting only states there are too many hoops for legal citizens to jump through. Nowhere does he say that he doesn't want to keep any of them in place, nor that he wants to remove the first two.
