I feel awkward not going in for work. Is that weird?

It just means you've excepted the programming, lol. Maybe your a people pleasure and you been taught about being responsible. Maybe it's fear of consequences . But you need to relax and enjoy it :)

I always feel guilty and it messes my day too. So I just go in and have gotten sent home for being sick. Which I accept.
