Why are christians so desperate to deny those who became Atheists were ever christians? [Spirituality & Religion]

I used to be a devout christian but, after seriously studying the bible and examining my faith, determined it was all BS. I found the bible to be nothing more than a jumble of myths and superstitions taken from various older belief systems and frequently contradictory. As a result of my studies, I became an Atheist.

Now I find some christians are desperate to deny I was ever a christian. They just can't accept the fact that a christian could ever break away from "the truth" (as they like to call their beliefs) to become an Atheist. The idea is so alien to them they deny it's even possible. They even claim to know what the person experienced better than that person knows. Another claim is that I couldn't have studied the bible "properly" and that I should ask (their) "god" for help. What are they so scared of?

Yes same here. The Bible to me was a collection of myths often contradictory. I find it actually to be the most incoherent of all religions.
karysma · 31-35, F
@JimboSaturn It's not about religion. It's about having a personal relationship with Yahweh
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
Then you really don't need a Bible then. That is true, not believing in the bible is not the same as not believing in God. @karysma
Theliberal · 36-40, M
@JimboSaturn im still yet to meet someone who can give an actual contradiction, all they say is. "Theres tons in there" really? Tell me one.

The Word of God is the most sound doctrine we have in this fallen world. It's the most truthful and reliable book that ever was written since God, Yahweh, Himself wrote it.
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
Well Jesus is about love, forgiveness, and turning the other cheek and the Yahwey often instructed the Isrealites to murder and destroy their enemies.@Theliberal
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
Ya I'm just not believing that. I don't find it relatable. I do like the teachings of Jesus however.@GodSpeed63
Theliberal · 36-40, M
@JimboSaturn there is not contadiction in what you stated. Different people were instucted in different ways throughout history. Is it contradictory to let a homo get married in 2019 when in 1919 they would have been killed?
karysma · 31-35, F
@JimboSaturn I often times wonder why Yahweh instructed the Israelites to kill but He does everything for a reason. He was a bit harsh in the Old Testament cause there was too much sin but things changed when Jesus gave His life and washed away our sins. Humans were reconciled with Yahweh
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
Or it just be that the old testament was written a thousand years before the new testament for a different group of people. I don't buy into that "God must have had a reason" @karysma
@Theliberal I will tell you one contradiction:

get 2 clean sheets of paper.

on the first, write down the exact order of creation in the first creation story (the creatio ex nihilo)

on the second, write down the exact order of creation in the second creation story (mud)

compare the two lists
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
Wow I don't even need to respond to that, you've said enough. I do acknowledge however that you are not the same kind of Christian as Karysma.
@Theliberal
Theliberal · 36-40, M
@JimboSaturn what i was saying is different law applied to those people of that point in time. God gave specific people specific law to follow.
Theliberal · 36-40, M
@SomeMichGuy there is one creation story, found in Genesis of the KJV
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
I just feel that is nonsense. How could God radically change his behavior. It's the whole "mystery of God" trump card I guess.@Theliberal
@Theliberal you need to read a little further, because there are two, side by side, in any reasonable translation (and the KJV is reasonably poetic, but not a great translation).

The first is the creatio ex nihilo which opens Genesis, the second is God fashioning ppl from mud.
karysma · 31-35, F
@JimboSaturn of course He does everything for a reason. When it's part of His plan to eliminate you from the story He does just that. He calls the shots weather we like it or not
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
@Theliberal 😂 there are many creation stories. Anyway I'll stop now, you are obviously entrenched in your belief as am I.
Theliberal · 36-40, M
@JimboSaturn God didnt change his behavior. To read the bible the major of times those people who were killed were under the judment of God. They had to die for their disobedience. The same thing will happen again in the end time, and is currently, in ky opinion happening every day.
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
Or things just happen due to normal everyday natural and explainable phenomina not a supernatural reason. @karysma
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
So God is not kind and forgiving like Jesus, he is angry and vengeful@Theliberal
Theliberal · 36-40, M
@JimboSaturn if God was not kind and loving Jesus would have never went to that Cross. If you choose to deny his loving, forgiving kindess by his son Jesus Christ, then you will indeed meet a jealous Vengeful God and in turn will die.

@JimboSaturn
I find it actually to be the most incoherent of all religions.
That's because it was put together from bits and pieces of multiple older, often contradictory, belief systems.

Try Acts 9:7 - "And the men which journeyed with him stood speechless, hearing a voice, but seeing no man."

and Acts 22:9 - "And they that were with me saw indeed the light, and were afraid; but they heard not the voice of him that spake to me."

Pity he couldn't keep his story straight. ;)

He's kept it straight. You haven't.
