What problem or situation did tv/movies make you think would be common, but when you grew up you found out it wasn't?

I've always liked the idea that Star Trek came up with. The transporter. I wish being able to beam from one place to another were really possible. I thought by now, it would be. Sigh, just another disappointment.

Overhearing a snippet of conversation and jumping to the wrong conclusion with hilarity ensuing.

Having friends after having kids.
