If you get sick & have health insurance, can you still afford to go to a hospital?

A lady complaining on the news yesterday that she went to the hospital & had a $13,000+ bill and the insurance plan only paid $3,000.

I count myself of very lucky to be in the UK with our NHS..they do us a great service with limited resources.
