If you get sick & have health insurance, can you still afford to go to a hospital?

A lady complaining on the news yesterday that she went to the hospital & had a $13,000+ bill and the insurance plan only paid $3,000.

I am lucky I live in Australia, broke my ankle 10 years ago and needed a operation - 3 days later out of hospital - did not pay a cent
