I'll bite. I'm Canadian like you and not a Democrat, but I agree with them that the wall is stupid.

- Illegal immigrants come to the US because there are people willing to hire them and lax labour law enforcement. There are policy corrections to that.

- Rich Republicans who campaign against illegal immigration still hire them, and this includes Trump. They -want- the cheap labour, but want to punish the people who come for it. I don't see the immigrants as the bad guys in that situation.

- Most illegal immigrants cross legally on a visa (driving or plane or whatever) and just overstay. A wall won't fix that.

- The areas the wall would be built don't have a problem of people flooding across the borders and have a ton of fencing already. The places people cross on foot are the dangerous areas there will be no wall.

- Border agents want more manpower and funding, not a wall.

- Illegal immigrants aren't actually a social problem and I've yet to see a convincing argument that their presence has harmed the US economically. The "the Democrats want illegal immigrants so they get a voting base" is ludicrous and I have yet to see evidence for it. Hell, first generation immigrants tend ot be conservative and would be a voter base for the right if the right wans't so obsessed with persecution. The Ford brothers learned that lesson in Ontario.

- The flood of people from Mexico/Central America is a result of US foreign policy and if they didn't want a refugee crisis the US shouldn't have created one.

they are not a problem ?
they do not demand money ?
they do not tax resources ?
what exactly do they bring ?

Yes first generation immigrants are conservatives for they had to bloody get that visa, learn English and be productive, pay taxes too.

Who is being persecuted ?
@CountScrofula This, among the no thank you to a third world war, are the two best answers to this question.

@revenant

> they are not a problem ?

No.

> they do not demand money ?

Demand money? Could you articulate what you're implying here?

> they do not tax resources ?

There's lots of data showing they're overall tax contributors and use far fewer resources than citizens.

> what exactly do they bring ?

The same thing any immigrants do. They bring labour, knowledge, and population increase. The US and Canada were settled by large waves of immigrants with no education who did not speak English.

More immigrants = richer country. And just like today, all those immigrants were hated by the residents. They even put Ukrainians in internment camps in WW1 in Canada.

But this is a side show. The wall is still a bad idea and won't work, even IF illegal immigrants were bad to the country.

As for persecution I would imagine you'd think this is a good thing? After all you'd want to drive the illegals out.

@CountScrofula Oh you mean hordes of men who do not speak English nor French, have no skills, do not know how to read and write, come from totally different backgrounds, are housed, fed, given more rights than Candadian citizens, have access to healthcare, eye and teeth taken care of for FREE ( hello..Canadian citizens do not even have that right ) are a good thing for Canada ?
I am not blaming them though. Anybody would take for free what is given FREELY, no question asked.
Hospitals are taxed to the limit.
How is the Canadian dollar doing now ?
How is Toronto doing in terms of crime ?

You are conflating settlers and immigrants who built the country. Canada became a rich country. Very rich country.

I am grossly exaggerating on purpose.
