Is 14 too old for a babysitter?

My mother got me a baby sitter once when I was 13 years old and on vacation with family and friends. It was a day when the adults and older teens went out to do something and I would've been alone in a vacation house (in the middle of Palm Springs, a crime free upper class area, in the relatively crime free 1950s). My mother hired an 18 year old girl to supervise me. She was a very nice girl and we both made the best if it. But I remember how deeply humiliated I felt. Of course, with my mother, that may have been the whole point.

As someone who babysits, I feel It really depends on the responsibility of the child at that age as well as other factors. Other factors could include how long the parents are going to be gone (hours vs days vs weeks), day versus night, and what needs to be done during those house. Happy to chat. Send me a message.
