I'd say it's a mentality. You could have a 70 year old who jokes, runs around, is active, and who doesn't act old, and then you could have someone in their 30's who acts like a cranky old person.

I refer to my parents as seniors because that’s how they see themselves (octogenarians). I don’t quite see myself as one yet, although I’m certain just based on my age (59 on Tuesday) others do. 👩🏽‍🦳
