@offingg You might be interested in Dr. Nagel's book "The View from Nowhere", Oxford University Press 1986. For a very brief introduction into qualia, you can find his famous paper "What is it like to be a bat?" on the internet. Also "What Mary didn't know", by Frank Jackson, also available on the internet.

@helenS I only read the bat paper this year. I was helping someone with a paper on the nature of consciousness - basically are we meat machines or is there some form of dualism. read some interesting papers - can machines have consciousness? That was connected with arguments for and against the Chinese Room as well as papers on non-human consciousness
