Can you prevent someone from commenting on fb without blocking them

i have someone on my fb. i don’t wanna delete him as a friend (although i could .... quietly) but sometimes his comments are rude or embarassing. i’ve already changed my settings so he cannot see my new posts but i just changed my profile pic and got another unnecessary comment. We are just friends btw but he’s rude, abrasive.
