Are hippies just peace loving and friendly drug addicts?

Originally hippies were committed to live on Earth without damaging the planet, discarding all of what they considered unnecessary societal conventions (like marriage, jobs, etc) and advocated a communal life. In that process they reverted to pre-Proctor & Gamble mankind and considered that killing each other was worse than being smelly, especially if everybody smelled the same.
