Did you ever have to haul water from a well when you were young?

We did at one house where we lived in a village. I don't know why they didn't put the well close to the house like just off the porch. But I can't complain because this is how some in India have had to get water

At my grandparents farm house when the pump wasn't working, and the artesian well at summer villa, and I guess at some relatives' and stuff... Although I did use to fight some critters up and down those stairs!

I had to haul water at my grandparent's house, but fortunately the well was right next their back porch, and slightly more shallow than the one pictured.

@xLily I look at those photos and wonder how many have fallen to their deaths, bad enough to climb up and down those steps but to carry water? And no handrails

@xLily They were very considerate and erected a sun shade about half way down. I can't believe that you would want them to add handrail too. ;)
