I think I may be an alcoholic

I drink every day. Some nights I drink 4 double shots of Jack Daniels after work alone, at home. Other days I I'll drink beer. Like last night, I drank 1 double shot of Jack Daniels and 2 in a half beers. And these beers aren't bud lite or miller high life beers. They are stouts or IPA's. Very strong beers. I really want to stop drinking every night but I KEEP DOING IT. Cause I think "Oh it's not that big a deal it's only a few drinks". But it is. I feel like it has a lot to do with reasons why I can't drop as much weight as I want to. anyway, that's it!

A lot of people 'self medicate.' Humans have been doing it forever.
But there's a downside. And you're right about the weight. A lot of dead calories in alcohol. Not sure if it works for you but if you're looking for an escape at night...weed. Non-addictive and significantly less harmful than alcohol.

@Ynotisay I was thinking about weed but about last time I tried it, it made me feel weird. you're right though.

@dealingwithit10 It's a different feeling and affects the brain differently. Takes a few times to get used to it.
One thing's for sure. You won't find many angry, belligerent pot heads. :)

I kind of feel the same way. Figure I am fully functioning. I don't feel drink and I can try and Gina couple of days without. But then I have this urge just to drink. My excuse is hanging out with neighbor's. But if not then I typically.pop open a bottle of wine and I have to force myself not to drink the whole thing

@BearDownChicago OMG I ALWAYS DRINK THE WHOLE BOTTLE. Even if I'm already a little past my limit. If there are two glasses left, I drink it.

@dealingwithit10 I force myself to stop. It's difficult for sure

4 double shots at home alone is cause for concern. So is this post.

Prove to yourself that you're okay without it for a week or two at a time. Or get help to quit.

@hlpflwthat You're right. Thank you!

Honey please listen to this. Your are young, don't throw your life away. I was married to an alcoholic. That's why we are no longer together. He is my exact same age. He looks 20 years older. He has smoked and drank his self almost to death. I wouldn't be surprised if he makes it another 3 years. Get help before it's too late. I know some are predispositioned to have addictions. Please see about this before it's too late.

@Mbingh01 Thank you!

I had the same problem, although I didn't drink as heavy as you. I stopped when health issues came up. I panicked and stopped cold turkey. You can do it. I liked the nice relaxed and groggy feeling from alcohol, so I substituted over the counter sleeping pills and it worked. Also instead of alcohol, I switched to something sweet, like ice cream. Amped up my nutrition and drank more water, exercised, etc. You can do it. Start cutting back each day until you are not drinking snymore. Please don't delay.

@SW-User So weird, I was just thinking of going to buy sleeping pills now. Because its gotten so bad to the point where I can't sleep without it.
