Where did the stereotype that Asians are a bad driver came from?

I usually don't drive ever because I take public transport. But I am good at driving.

@SW-User The drivers in China amaze me in general. They all seem to be suicidal maniacs.

@NCCindy The one cab driver I had definitely fit the bill, though our bus driver knew his bus like the back of his hand and could squeeze it into the tiniest of gaps in traffic without touching anything. Amazing.

Sometimes I see someone driving terribly around here and I assume it's an old person, but am surprised to see it's a young Asian woman. But I live in an area with a lot of Asians, so that doesn't necessarily mean anything. And with everyone staring at their phones while they drive, it seems like practically everyone's a bad driver now.
