Do you have a favorite black group from back in the 60's?

I was totally nuts about "Sly and the Family Stone" I would have after- hours parties when the dance clubs closed, I would play "Sly" til the wee hours of the morning. I miss those wonderful times!

I didn't know many black groups in the 60s, but I liked the Drifters when I was a kid. "Saturday Night At The Movies" came out in the 60s, I liked that one when I was a kid.

@Coyotedave611 Thanks for the Best Answer, Coyotedave. Not only do I like the Drifters' music myself, they remind me of a girl I had a crush on when I was in my teens, they were her favourite group. Her favourite song of the lot was this one:

Either the Temptations or Four Tops.
@SW-User They were great weren't they?

@Coyotedave611 They certainly were...
@SW-User So many makes it hard to really chose a favorite.

I was listening to a documentary about a guy who was obsessed with Sly and the family stone, it was about him trying to track him down. He eventually organised a tribute night involving some members of the group. Apparently Sly turned up unannounced on a motorcycle. Then he left 5 mins later. The guy was both thrilled and mortified at the same time.
@AliceTinker Sly had the most unique vocals, can't really be compared with anyone. He was by far my favorite!

I found this group and thought the sound was really unique and good for this song & time. Found them searching garage which turned into soul bands on american bandstand (maybe I'm wrong!)

Diana Ross & the Supremes was also a 60s favorite.
@arthurca Yes they were. I have to admit though, I was a bit irritated when Diana left the group to go solo.

I like The Platters probably the most.
Not from the 60s but a really good current artist Gary Clark Jr. He is good
I loved so many of them:The Temptations, Four Tops, Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, The Isley Brothers, Martha Reeves and The Vandellas, The Marvelettes...
