I used to be militantly atheistic until I decided this was just as dogmatic a position as any religion. Here's how I look at the god-thing now: There is such a thing as Truth that can't be denied, the way a geometrical theorem, a straight line, or a chord played well in tune are True. Some people adore Truth as a living person, some people honor Truth via science, the arts or justice, and some people pull the wool over their own eyes and praise "Bob" until the cattle come home to Jonestown.

@MissPriscillaPrim Atheism is the rational position of non-acceptance of a claim (the existence of deities) that has not been proven.

Why would anyone believe something for which there is no evidence just because someone else believes or says it's true? There's a word for that stance - "gullible".

@fazer1k I'm among those who rationally decline to accept the claims of religion. I'm militant about resisting crazy groups like Daesh and the Apostolic Christians out to install religious governments -- the ISIS, the "JAY-ziss!" and the (Na)Zionist cults. But I draw a line at those who holler "I know religious people are all fools!" That's proselytizing. Bill Maher isn't exactly wrong with his "Atheism is a religion like abstinence is a sex position" -- but he ignores that he's going out of his way to fuck with people who don't deserve it.
Take away all the fairytale crap from the Gospels and you see the powerful lesson at its core: The religious powers had Jesus put to death because he told them "Shut up about your god making you special, and do some good for your fellow humans!" The "resurrection" is the same metaphoric story as Woody Guthrie's song about Joe Hill: "Takes more than guns to kill a man, said Joe, I didn't die... The part of Joe Hill they couldn't kill went on to organize!"
What the religious powers did then is the same story as the Who's song "Won't Get Fooled Again:" "Meet the new BOSS! Same as the old BOSS!" How sad for humanity... but not everyone is fooled.
Here endeth the squirmin'. Go and piss.

@GodSpeed63 Do you accept the Bible as literal truth, or allegory?
MissPriscillaPrim · 70-79, T
@GodSpeed63 La. A note to follow So.
GodSpeed63 · 61-69, M
@Bushranger Actual truth through His Spirit of Truth.
suzie1960 · 61-69, F
@GodSpeed63 LOL! You clearly have no idea of the truth.
GodSpeed63 · 61-69, M
Again, how do you know, Suzie Q?
Bushranger · 70-79, M
@GodSpeed63 So the world was created in 6 days and Moses saved all the extant animals in his ark?
suzie1960 · 61-69, F
@Bushranger He's completely lost the plot. He doesn't even know who he's responding to, he seems to think I'm Suzie Q.
Bushranger · 70-79, M
@suzie1960 I love Suzie Q. Great performer and rock chick icon lol
GodSpeed63 · 61-69, M
@suzie1960 @Bushranger Moses saved those animals from the flood? Obviously you don't read the Word of God much. It wasn't Moses, it was Noah. God freed Israel from the Egyptians through Moses. Suzie Q, you never cease to amaze me. It's always a pleasure talking with you. I haven't lost anything as you guessed.
Bushranger · 70-79, M
@GodSpeed63 I thank you for pointing out the error in my post. Don't know what I was thinking (obviously, I wasn't when I typed that) . But, if you do take the Bible as being literal truth, how do you account for scientific evidence that disagrees with a literal interpretation of the Bible?
GodSpeed63 · 61-69, M
You're most welcome. Evolution science will always disagree with the Word of God but its scientists forgets one thing, God is the Author of science, He uses it to show us His creation and how He's made it all work. He really does love us. God doesn't want religion, He wants our love.
Bushranger · 70-79, M
@GodSpeed63 I didn't mention religion or evolution, but perhaps necessary for this discussion. Evolution doesn't necessarily disagree with the concept of a God. Without any other alternative for the initial creation of life, the possibility of the intervention of a God can not be disproved, but would be unlikely. But it may well disagree with the Word of God as interpreted by some people. I mean to say, the creation of the world in 6 days, all life on earth being saved from a world-wide flood are stories that can have no basis in science.

Of course, if you claim that God is omnipotent and can perform miracles, then you have an easy, but patently false explanation for the discrepancy. You see, science looks for provable truth and is willing to adapt it's hypotheses to according to what is observable and testable.
suzie1960 · 61-69, F
@Bushranger Suzie Quatro? I couldn't hope to emulate her. :(
Bushranger · 70-79, M
@suzie1960 Come on, I bet you are one very talented and wild lady.
