@TheWildEcho it is a row tractor that allows you to make very tight turns in the middle of the rows without running over any of the plants. Brilliant idea that worked well. That old JD only had one cylinder and when it idles you can see the whole tractor rocking back and forth since the piston runs horizontal to the frame.
@TheWildEcho Ha ha yeah I grew up on a ranch that had nothing but antique tractors. We had an old Field Marshal that you started with a shot gun shell. The engine could run forward or backward so you had to be careful when you started it.
@Tminus6453 we had an old Farmall with the narrow wheels. Fine to stay between rows in the fields but otherwise was often a problem. With a heavily loaded front bucket it was really a beast. But we used it anyway for 30 years.
@Rambler yes exactly. The steering was light enough when there was no load on the front end but I would hate to try to steer it with a 1500 lbs bale on the front of it.
For us it was usually fumigant drums at 750 lbs per. Brutal. But with a rotary mower in back for counterweight, it worked...but hard as hell on those little front tires.
