I don't know what you're going through. And I don't know what you want at this particular time. But I do know if your faith is fading, what you need. When things are changing around me and the storms come in before me, I remember the Jesus is bigger than any storm and He is in control and that he continuously protects me and always has my best interest at heart. That he will never fail me, and that has been true all the 46 years I have known and loved him. So I always tell myself the truth; not how things appear to be. I don't look at what is around me, because that doesn't matter. God is taking care of all that. So I tell myself the truth...it's my thinking that needs adjusting. It's not the storm that needs to go away, it's my faith that needs to get back to God and let him do what I cannot do. I know I'm in the best of hands, when I trust God. When I cannot see hope, I look to the One who gives it, and as I turn to that truth and Jesus, my hope in him and his promises are fully restored and my mind transformed to peace, love, enjoy again.
I don't allow nor entertain those thoughts that say I can't make it. I don't know what to do. I can't do this. I can't go through this. Those are all lies, and when we have those thoughts it's because it's brought on by fear, and God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of peace, hope, love, and a sound mind. THAT is the spirit God has given us. 2 Timothy 1:7. God has not given us the spirit of fear, but the spirit of power, of courage and resolution, resiliency, and perseverance to meet difficulties and dangers. It's the spirit of love from him, which carries us through opposition, and gives us a sound mind, and quietness of mind, because of his Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is not the author of a timid or cowardly disposition, or of slavish fears, that try to chain us. When we look at the truth, we know that it is the devil trying to instill fear in us, so that we will not have faith. I never walk by sight. I walk by faith and the promises of God because they are always there, always in place, always working, and always will. I do not look at the storms around me, whatever they may be. I tell myself the truth and how God can do anything. Nothing is impossible for Him. Though everything around me may change and look scary, I know my God keeps his promises. Things may look scary around you, but there's one thing that has not, and never will change, and that is God is watching over you and you're worth to him cannot be changed, nor his love for you, which never ends. Your value, worth, and resilience as a person, have not changed.
When everything looks so scary, like it could never get better; when those thoughts say this is the end, it cannot get better; I can't do this... I don't know what to do, or there's nothing I can do, those are all lies. You have an enemy. We all do. And it is not yourself. His name is Satan and it is his powers and principalities of darkness that make people do what they do and end up where they are now. And if he could, he would take everyone he could, to hell with him. We must know our enemy and overcome him with the power and love of Jesus. It is the same power that raised Jesus from the dead, brought Him back to his Father in heaven, and brings us hope and redemption. We have it!
The truth of God's Word says Satan is our spiritual adversary, out to bring us down, in any way he can. 1 Peter 5:8 reminds us to "be sober minded and watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour." But we also have victory in Jesus, who delivers us from our enemies. 2 Corinthians 4:8-9 - "We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; Perplexed, but not driven to despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed."
1 Peter 5:10 - Don't be afraid. "Though we suffer, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you." Jesus tells us to be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go. Psalms 34:19 says, "Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all!" God keeps His promises.
I don't allow, therefore, my mind to listen to the negative thoughts that my enemy, Satan, would have me believe. And that's how I know him, because God doesn't give negative, depressing, suicidal, hateful, or ugly thoughts that you can't win, that there's no hope, there's no way out, that this is it, that you're nothing, that you are worthless and hopeless... all lies, don't believe them for a second. I refuse to entertain those, because God gives those who love and trust Him, a spirit of hope, peace, joy, and love that passes all understanding. God gave us the power to think and use our common sense. We no longer have to be chained by the past, nor the lies that go around in the present, because we ARE in control. We know right from wrong and we know the score. That's where your power is. THAT'S your truth and freedom. We don't have to stay chained to this world and the evil in it.
There are not just good spirits in this world, there are also evil, and they do their best to try to drag us down. But when we turn around and stop for a moment and look at the real truth, that God LOVES us, is still in control, he always has been, always will be, and he always has our best interest at heart, we can now look at Jesus instead of the storms. Don't believe a lie. There IS hope. The truth is, there is redemption and power in the blood of Jesus Christ, he loves you, he died for you, there is hope, a future and a brand new beginning in Jesus, because he's coming back for you, me, and anyone who will believe him and put their trust in him. He is pure and sinless. HE is the truth we can look to and stand on, our Solid Rock, because Jesus is no liar. He is without sin. He is incapable of lying. He always, but always, keeps his promises and when he says he's coming back, you can believe that with all your heart, mind, and soul, because he's coming back to rescue us from the condemnation sin placed on us, and take us to a better place than this. Some say this life is hell, but there's a worse prison, than this prison. It's hell. But when Jesus touches our lives, it's the power and endless love of Jesus for us, and the kindness of God, that leads us to repentance, total forgivenes and our sins totally forgotten, and eternal life in heaven with our Savior and Redeemer. Our Hope and our future. Nothing can take that away.
