Only when you take a part away and it is no longer whole but then again technically then it’s not whole so really a whole can never be less than the sum of its parts, mathematically speaking anyway.

@Highonheels mathematically speaking then, the whole could never be MORE than the sum of its parts, as proposed by Aristotle. Is this the case?

@SW-User the way I see it no a whole can not be more than the sum of its parts either , now I’m no genius but once somthing is whole then adding to it just makes it another whole and taking away from it makes it less than whole, idk call me a primitive thinker but like I said I’m not a genius so I don’t know how they see it

@Highonheels One example is an organism. The entire organism, functioning and alive, is considered to be more that the sum of its parts. It becomes greater when all components are working together.

@SW-User but it is still technially a single whole organism even if all it’s parts aren’t working properly or even if all parts are working , ok like me for intstance I am a whole being correct even though I am missing a kidney does that make me less of a being well maybe depending on how you look at it but im still a single whole living being now remove a arm or leg and I’m not technically whole right , again it depends on how you look at it but if you compare it to other Human beings I’m not really the same on the outward physical appearance , but then some might say that even then your still a whole being you just missing a part that other beings have so it really depends on you view or perspective of things I think , take an inanimate object ok let’s say a pizza 🍕 ok so you cook a single whole uncut pizza then you cut it into 8 even slices then you eat a slice is that pizza now a seven piece whole or a 8 piece whole missing a piece it’s kind of like the old saying is the glass half full or half empty it’s a matter of perspective if you ask me ,and you did so there you have it .
