I find the term degrading honestly if it's coming from a stranger. I have been called a slut for no reason except that I was chatting with a random guy who approached me in the street. Two girls passed by and said "slut"

@Usernumber1 they were jealous for some reason. i've seen girls do this when they wish it were them interacting with the male in question. don't let it upset you. they don't even know you, and it shows their immature ignorance and says nothing about you.
