Talk with the contractor - especially if there are still nails in the street. Call the number for the business so you know you're dealing with the owner. I bet you get reimbursed [b][i]and[/i][/b] the street gets cleaned up ;)

You might want to check out the legal responsibility. It might be more appropriate to sue the construction company in small claims court; take some pictures and some names.
