Anyone been catfished? Or think they have been catfished but not sure?

I was I spoke to someone for 3-4years. As a friend then as a partner. They stopped talking to me less and less and just stopped. I couldn't find them on any social media that we spoke through. Like she vanished. Therefore I panicked as they were my best friend. We talked everyday all day. I worried because that person said they were raped by a gang etc when I was with them in a relationahip way so I worried about a lot of things.

I looked them up on facebook pictures, name, location matched. I thought great we can talk again :) until I got a reply and that person never heard of me or spoke to me. It broke my heart. It's still on my mind a lot we went through so much.I still don't know who I spoke to. I thought I had a new grouo of friends. I don't know who or if any of it was real. :(
