Is honesty best online?

I’m always honest and sometimes I’m rejected for being honest. I know others are lying just to talk to people. Isn’t this the internet? Shouldn’t we avoid judging the few people who are actually willing to be honest? It’s like people would rather talk to liars that say what they want to hear than to people who tell the truth. I avoid anyone who comes across as fake. And I wouldn’t even enjoy a conversation where I pretended to be something I’m not.

Honesty anywhere doesn't get you many friends. 🤷
But that's how you find the compatible ones.
Being honest with your opinions vs. Saying what people want to hear will not make you win the Friendship Award...

But it will help you find the people who share your values and points of view.

The question is would you rather be likeable and popular, or would you rather be your true self and find people you could build honest connection with?

Being your true self does not mean being a jerk or condescending or cruel. Honesty is saying what you believe in without worrying that you will not be liked for it.

@CookieCrumbs I don’t know why everyone is taking this that way. Apparently I didn’t do a good job of explaining. I’m talking about simple honesty about who you are. Not being a jerk. I agree with you.
@SouthernRaised
That’s my point. Being who you are is standing by your beliefs and values and personal opinions.

How would you answer a question asking: “Do I look fat?”

If by YOUR standards of being fit the person soliciting opinions do look fat, would you be honest enough to say so? Or would you rather be nice and say ...”No, you’re perfect?”

@CookieCrumbs I’d never tell any woman she looks fat. I understand where you’re coming from, but I’m only talking about honesty about questions that relate to self and not to others.
It entirely depends on what you mean by ‘honest.’ If by honest you mean telling someone you think they’re ugly or stupid, that is more like being cruel than honest. I find most often when someone talks about how honest they are, that’s what they mean...brutal.

If by being honest you mean you are up front and tell the truth about yourself, that’s something else entirely.

You don’t have to lie, but you also don’t need to offer painful ‘truths.’

@Mamapolo2016 I’m talking about personal honesty. I agree with you, being a jerk and calling it honesty is just stupid.
@SouthernRaised It’s worse than stupid. It can be very damaging...even dangerous to a vulnerable person.

I am glad to hear you practice kind honesty.☺

"If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all" rings a bell in my mind.
