U.S. protectionism is self-defeating and a "symptom of paranoid delusions" that must not distract China from its path to modernisation, Chinese state media said on Friday as Beijing kept up with its war of words with Washington over trade.

They are right. China is presently on an ambitious project to connect much of east and central asia via various integrated infrastructure projects and provide viable commercial land and sea routes where once there were none. They are cooperating with many other nations to do this, and their influence is growing. The US on the other hand, has decided it has enough influence and would rather flush some down the toilet.

This is not to say I think that China will surpass the US on the global scene in the near future, but they are building where we are decaying.
