Be left on “read?” Or have your message unread, but be able to see that the person is online?

Personally, I find there’s something especially annoying about sending a message to someone, seeing them pop up as online, but never getting a read receipt or response.

I do both to people all the time. mainly because I'm either annoyed af at the person, so i dont even bother to open their message, and if i dont care to keep a conversation longer than i think i should go, i usually just leave a message of theirs on "read" to signal the end of the convo. or i tell them "brb" and never come back to speak to them, but i remain online.

I do the same from time to time, depending on the person. But I think you’re proving my assumptions a bit, it seems most people who do so are doing it intentionally. The worst thing is when they claim they didn’t realize it or something haha.
