Has anyone ever stayed in an Airbnb before?

I will be staying in one Friday. When I booked it, it didn’t seem weird but now the idea of sleeping in someone else’s bed is a little odd.

I have never used them, since in some areas they violate the law, like NYC, where it's illegal to rent for less than 30 days at a time. Plus, hotels tend to be cleaner, especially known properties. What I do not like, and can't stand about traditional bed and breakfast establishments is forced socialization with other guests, and/or the owners. I prefer a hotel because I am free to set my schedule and can come and go as I want without consideration of others.

If it's an occupied home, and the people are nice, it can provide for a good getaway, especially in a nice area. I know someone who stayed at one recently in California and the owner has her own home on the premises and rents a guest house. She was a wealth of local knowledge and made their trip much more special, as she was able to recommend local restaurants and attractions that they may not have known. So, it can be a positive experience.

@toddr13 NYC is exactly where aibnb is a godsend. The legal risk is all on the owner/tenant side of things, and never bothered me. And 99% of them aren't anything like a bed and breakfast with forced socialization, etc. If the owner is even on the premises, you generally see them exactly once - when you check in and they give you the keys and show you around.

The "guest house" set up you mentioned is a common type of setup, but in major cities, you're usually renting out a small apartment. And probably saving a lot of money over a hotel.

Some AirBnBs aren't lived in, so you're basically staying in a different kind of hotel. Some are though, and then it feels like you're sort of house sitting. Both are perfectly fine. Hope you have fun :)

It’s actually not that bad when you think about all the sleazeballs who’ve slept in a hotel bed before you. 😒

I've done it 3 times. All of them went pretty well. All you have to do is to follow the rules.

I recently stayed at one in Nashville. It was a good experience. Would do it again.

It’s not my thing I like the vast anonymity of a hotel

Isn't it literally the same as being in a hotel though?
KaciAlex · 26-30, F
@Fangirlsarah1996 basically.

It might not be the case anymore but it used to be cheaper than most hotels. I've had a studio be rent to me 10€/night.

@Trevo yes, the only reason I opted for an Airbnb is because it was cheaper.
