Do you feel like you need one? That’s a big deal... unless of course you are familiar with handguns . Get some of your guy friends or a range officer at a shooting range to help you . I carry a Glock 23 in my purse . I would recommend that if you do buy one to go 9mm , maybe a Glock 43. I like Glock for a lot of reasons ... easy to clean , readily available parts , fires no matter what , and there’s lots of aftermarket things you can have do to if you later decide to modify it to better suit your needs .[media=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=754Aoe7sdkU]

Yes! Everyone should own at least one gun, be well versed in its limits, operation , maintenance , and repair .; as well as be well supplied with ammuntion in case you were to ever NEED it!
