When you turn on an element make sure it lights before you turn the knob to the non click settings. The clicking sound is the igniter and it is possible to release gas without lighting the gas. Gas is a very good choice and makes much nicer meals than electric. You made a great choice.
@hippyjoe1955 I just touched the dial and it made a clicking sound so I stopped and now iam back on the couch. I don't understand and I'm scared. So the clicking sound is normal when you touch it?

@MushroomFaerie Yes it is simply a little electric spark that lights the gas when you turn the element on. Listen to the clicking and turn the element on then wait until flames appear.
@hippyjoe1955 What happens if oil sprays out?

@MushroomFaerie There shouldn't be any oil in there. There might be a bit of residue from the making of the stove but once it has been used there is no oil involved.
@hippyjoe1955 no I mean cooking oil. I went to turn the dial and it won't turn. What am I doing wrong?

@MushroomFaerie Push the knob in and turn it the right way. It should go to light/high only. It should not turn to low.

I push dial and it makes noise, I try to turn it up and it's not moving???

Maybe you simply need to turn it without pushing. The gas won't hurt you but it will make a smell if it is not burned. Experiment.
@hippyjoe1955 I've tried that and I tried other dials. I don't understand

It looks like you turn the knob counterclockwise and hold it as you hear the faint hiss of gas and the click of the igniter. When the flame is lit adjust it to the intensity you want.
@hippyjoe1955 OMG thank you. I finally got it!!!

@MushroomFaerie Way to go!!! Yes gas stoves are truly wonderful and you never have to worry about an element burning out on you.
@hippyjoe1955 the result is different... The food is less dry or something. Thanks heaps I was really starting to panic haha
